MotionSmartSM uses a smartphone app from Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) for Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android devices that gives you feedback about your driving, helping you become a safer and better driver.

MotionSmartSM collects and analyzes driving data and displays an overall driving score assessed by combining hard braking, hard acceleration, hard cornering, speeding, and phone use.  You can potentially lower your premiums through safe driving!

Is the MotionSmart Program hard to use?
It’s easy. Enroll with your insurance agent, download the MotionSmartSM App and log in. Once logged in you can begin recording trips. Feedback on driving behaviors, and recommendations to improve safe driving habits, are shared on the dashboard in the app.

You will also have access to a leaderboard where you can see how your safe driving stacks up to other drivers in the program. This can help to educate you and your family members about ways to improve driving habits and may help you reduce your risk of having an accident.

How do I enroll in the MotionSmart Program?
Talk with your agent to see if you are eligible for the MotionSmartSM Program. If so, your agent can help you get started.

You must record your first trip within 30 days of the effective date of your Auto policy, otherwise, you may be withdrawn from the Program.

How will my score impact my policy premium?
It’s simple.  For the large majority of drivers, premiums will be lowered by their safe driving.  Policy premium may increase for the riskiest drivers. The data collected by the app will be used for rating purposes including rating your policy at each renewal.

Example of safe driving :

  • Watching your speed: Respecting the speed limit decreases the risk of an accident, helps improve road safety and improves your score.

Example of unsafe driving:

  • Phone Distraction: Try to minimize the use of your phone on every trip. Because distraction increases reaction time, using the phone while driving can make getting into an accident 8 times more likely, so this will lower your score.
How does the app know whether I’m a driver or passenger?
MotionSmartSM will learn about your individual driving style over time. By taking this into account along with contextual cues, the app is able to determine whether you were a driver or passenger. Don’t worry if the app guesses wrong –you can change a trip from ‘Driving’ to ‘Not Driving’ within the app. Trips are collected in any vehicle operated by you. This data can be useful if you are involved in an accident since it can be used in the claim settlement process.
Can I stop using MotionSmart at any time?
Yes. If you wish to withdraw from the MotionSmartSM Program, you can do so at any time by uninstalling the app. The MotionSmartSM participation discount will no longer be applied to your policy. MAPFRE may continue to use the data collected from you to rate your current or any future policy with us.
Does Cambridge Mobile Telematics share my data?
We do not sell your information. Respecting your privacy is an important part of our commitment to providing excellent service and products. We limit access to your personal information to those persons or third-party vendors, such as Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), who need to know it to perform their jobs and to provide service to you, and as required or permitted by law.
